Fun Summer Activities for Kids That are Good for You & Your Teeth!

added on: May 18, 2016

Summer is just around the corner, which means more time outdoors for the whole family! It is important to keep kids active during the long summer months. Staying active is not only good for us physically, but allows us to interact socially and make new friends. When planning your summer activities, it’s important to keep safety in mind as well as the fun!

Here are a few summer activities for kids that are good for you and your teeth:

  1. Visit local farms and farmer’s markets. What better way to make it through the hot summer days than with fresh and nutritious produce! Stock up on local fruits and vegetables then spend the afternoon making delicious snacks and meals, such as fresh fruit salads or a chopped veggie salad. Incorporating nutrient-dense and fresh foods is a great choice for good dental health!
  2. Set up a lemonade stand. Spark your child’s entrepreneurial spirit by setting up a lemonade stand at a local park. Not only will they make pocket-money, but they will learn new skills as an entrepreneur for the day. To help ward off tooth decay, be sure to use sugar-free lemonade recipes containing fresh lemon juice.
  3. Join a sports team. Many cities offer youth soccer, baseball, football, or other team sports. If yours doesn’t, why not start one! Team sports have many benefits: Teaching health competition, getting physical activity and making lifelong friends. When playing any contact sport, make sure your child is wearing a mouth guard to protect them from accidental trauma, such as having a tooth accidentally chipped or even knocked out!

With these activities on your summer agenda, you likely won’t hear, “Mom, I’m bored!” anytime!

The summer is also a great time to visit your dentist since you won’t have to worry about your child missing school. Contact us today to schedule your next dental checkup!
